Introduction to Amoeba

Amoeba are single-celled organisms that are classified under the category of protists. It is eukaryotic cells that are part of the kingdom Protista and branch Rhizaria. Shape and Movement

The members of this class of protozoa are single-celled, highly motile, and undergo changes of shape constantly. They have the ability to make movements by stretching their cell membrane as well as the cytoplasm by forming protrusions commonly referred to as pseudopodia in the form of bristles. Reproduction and Life Cycle

Amoebas do not have a highly complex life cycle; they only have the single-cell stage and no multicellular stage. Another mode of asexual reproduction in amoeba is the process of budding, that is, the formation of a small protuberance on the wall of the parent cell with all the potentialities of developing into a new individual. In a conducive environment, the amoebae can reproduce and grow in number in a short time.

Adaptations and Habitats
